With the release of each marvel cinematic movie most fans know what to expect. Thor has come as a struggle to most in the department of foreshadowing. Thor Odinson of Marvel Comics created by Stan Lee is losely based off of the Norse Gods of the old Pagan Viking lore. But when the comics defer from myth and the movies have already change so much from the comic Continuity were do you look to for answer. I believe breaking down the three movies we already have seen Thor in(not counting avengers 2) you will find your answers. It can bring you a basic build while pulling in references from the Thor comic storyline The Ragnarok saga. I still believe that this movie will be a completely new look and feel. Now let me tell you why as we ask the old seer's to use their runes to tell us Odinsons fate.
First off limited screen time equals the limited ability to create the vast amount of character creation as well as back story's that would be needed to be added. You are looking at a entire family of God's that need to be created that have been left out thus far. Then explain were they were during the events of Thor 2 dark world. In the Norse myths The God Baldr, son of Odin(oh yes he has more children then Thor. About 5 children plus his adopted son Loki) needs to die in order for the events of Ragnarok unfold. For he will return from Hel after all the rest fallen in Ragnarok to lead the new world with Thor's two children as the new power structure and Midgard(earth) born again in a new age. See why Marvel is screwed right here. First Balder is in the comics but Thor has no sons. Second in the comics everyone dies but Odin spirit brings his dead Asgardian race spirits into a upper plan to all be reborn in time(post civil war) but destroying his chance of being reborn. Odin chooses this because not returning himself allows Surter to stay with him so not to repeat the events of Ragnarok again. To much with no time to build such a history Is the problem.
First off lets look more at the history of the God's. Odin full name is Odin Borson son to Borr the first Aesir which are the male God's of Asgard. He is one of three sons the others being Vil, and Vili. In there youth the three brothers travel the nine realms until they come across the mighty Surt in the land of Muspelheim were he is king.
Two of the brothers fall in battle and Odin takes on their powers attending the Odinforce. He defeats Surter locking him away till the end of days when he will break free from the death of Baldr and kill Odin starting Ragnarok.
Now something that the movies didn't touch on was this Odinforce. It is the reason Odin must sleep once a year like in the first film. With the power Given from the Odinforce he does not have to eat, sleep or succumb to death. Even the other gods grow old and die if they do not eat a special food(yet even then they still slowly age). This power causes a great strain hence the Odinsleep. Are you starting to see how the screen writers at marvel are have there work cut out for them. They have to redesign the back history brought already by two Thor films plus add enough characters to bring sense this the plot while explaining there absence from Thor one and two. Doing this is a must to keep a hair of even the essence of his lore in the comics. Now Thor's time line and progress between the comics and cinema world's are far apart from each other yet share common aspects that still hold now two different stories together. Yet at the current progress of the moving events anything close to the past works is out the window. Now you must know one more point of Thor's history before I can start to explain my third movie theory. Loki has been a driving force in the Thor films as well as the main marvel cinema time line villian and will do so till post infinity war. Loki has bared many children in both comics and lore but three of them are the most important. The first was Fenrir a giant wolf. The second Jormungand who was a giant snake known as the Midgard serpent who was so large he could reach his own tail biting it forming a ring which is the boarder of Midgard(Earth). The third was his haft alive haft dead daughter Hel who became the keeper of hell under Odin's orders out of fear. All three of these children play roles in Ragnarok as well. The wolf helps the fall of Odin. Thor kills the snake but dies from its poison.
Hel opens the gates of the underworld to aid surfer in his cause, and allowing revenge for her father bring a huge army that over powered the gods. Every decision in Norse mythology comes full circle. Every action has a price and the comics do a fine job portraying that as well.
Now that I vented about a multiple of issues here is my Thor three plot break down.
The opening will show more origin back story narrated by Odin untold before, ending with A scene of Loki childhood after his adoption. As he grew, even as small child his black magic begun to show. On day his powers splintered and created his three children as a means of play things. Odin out of fear took them and placed them in there proper places out of fear. A over voice will mention a prophecy of Surter and the end of days involving these creatures Odin spared. Now back in current time you find out that Odin had been replaced by Loki and once Thor returns from the events of avengers two he frees him. Very weaken he speaks of one who could help him which is Balder who has been banished and is Odin's first son. Loki flees asking for Thanos help once more but is told he does not allow failure and that he has a bigger plan for him. At this point Thor is at a much high power point then he was when he was first introduced in the first film. If you watch the movies he has progressed at almost a alarming pace. Thor travels though the realms to find Baldr who has been imprison and in the process finds Loki. Loki holds the now free but weak Baldr hostage as a plea to get away unharmed. Thor will stand for no more of his tricks and kills the now depowered Loki. Which release the hold on his children that Odin locked away long ago. Then the two return home to find the news about the coming danger. The wolf breaks in to the castle and tries to kill Odin. Baldr saves Odin killing the wolf but losing his own life but not before telling Thor some advice that will save him at a later time. The event awaken Surter that will connect will the added story from the opening scene. Now dead in Hell Loki Convinces his daughter Hel once finding out about her creation to open her gates so he can use the dead as a great army.
Thinking he can never lose loki goes on the war front. Surter joins the fight destroying Loki once and for all for disrespecting him then taking control over the undead forces. He kills Odin but Odin gets to say something catchy before he dies that rally's his people. The realm of Asgardians and its great people fight but are destroyed leaving Thor and the warrior three. As they mention in the TV show "agents of shield" They are not real God's just a large number of really strong alien races that live in spaces between are worlds. Thor musters all of his powers defeating the now injured Surter but still taking a lot of damage. As the fighting seems to come to a end with Odin and most his people dead. The nine realms become unstable as the life tree begins to fall apart and final appear in there respected places in are galaxy. Almost like they "uncloaked".
Then the Midgard snake becomes visible and grows tired of eatting it's own tail and since it is no longer binned as earth's barrier it attacks Thor in revenger against the all-fathers past actions. The fight shakes the galaxy and the tree of life final breaks. All the other realms world's and there races die. Thor is losing and about to die. All life is threaten including earth now. He remembers what Baldr told him and awakens his father's powers. At this point Thor is stronger then he has ever been as the Odinforce has passed to him giving him the power of all of his race. He kills the snake and saves the earth from the doom all his worlds crashing into earth. With his home, the nine realms and all the races now dead he floats in space knowing he saved the earth one more time like a proper God would. He knows his father would have been proud. At this point Thor uses the remaining Odinforce power which was the only thing keeping him alive from his wounds to clear and remove all that remains of his form nine worlds and anything that could get into the wrongs hands. He dies and all that's left is his hammer which you then hear his father's line from the first movie re spoken when he bashed Thor original as his hammer crashes to earth.
You fine Thor is reborn/ fused into a human. A few years have now passed since the events of Ragnarok and this new form named Donald Blake who is a doctor. Shortly after we are introduce to this character he goes on a trip to the Netherlands for vacation. On his trip he enters a old village and becomes under attack by the wreaking crew. Though he knows he is out classed he can not stand by he finds a large stick in a cave shrine nearby. Grabbing it to use to save a person life in the face of his own death he proving himself worthy and once again becomes Thor but as a human still and depowered from what he once was. He mentions at one point he feels off like a part of him is gone lock away in a dream. Thor Defeats the wreaking crew and returns to his human form afterwards deciding to keep the stick to help him walk since he has a lame leg to begin with.
This would be a perfect spot for Stan Lee to appear since he created Thor in a human/God personal. He would stay like this till events in the infinity war with interaction with one of the gems returns him to full power plus more in his own body and full power. I also like to believe that post infinity war events lead to the restoration of the tree of life and all the races though Odin will chose to stay dead. Leaving Thor king but gives the title to his brother Baldr for he was first born and a true ruler.
Perfect lose and come back in my eyes. As I already stated with the Norse God's lives that all actions come full circle. Also this could be a perfect out for the actor Chris Hemsworth since his contract would have expired by now but has stated he wanted to leave on a good note with marvel and the fans. The out being once dying in and being reborn/fused he takes on a new look aka new actor. Tying a actor down to one movie franchise can be the death for his carrier.
